Catching up on a bunch of things…
A couple of former high major GA’s headed to the JUCO level as assistant coaches:
Tariq Silver has been hired as an assistant at Florida SouthWestern State. Silver was a graduate assistant at Missouri last season.
David Kasanganay has become an assistant at East Central CC (MS). He had been a graduate assistant at Tennessee.
Keene State head coach Steve Enright will add Jackson Brown and Cole Otley to his staff as assistants. Brown, the son of former Albany head coach Will Brown, spent last season on the staff of D2 Franklin Pierce. Otley had been an assistant at The Phelps school for the past three years, and also worked with MADE Hoops.
I have heard that the search at D3 McDaniel (MD) is done. Waiting for confirmation on the name now. Word on the street is that the leader is a current D3 head coach from the region.
On campus interviews at D3 Clark (MA) happened last week. One name that I have heard a few times now is University of Chicago assistant Mike Mailhot. He has been at Chicago for the past seven seasons and has also been an assistant at Muhlenberg and Nichols. Working on more names now.
NAIA Spring Arbor (MI) has now been turned down twice after opening for the second time this off season. It now sounds like two more names here are a current NCCAA head coach from the midwest, and a current very successful veteran JUCO head coach also from the midwest. More on this one as I hear it.
D2 West Alabama has added Miles Ceballos as their new graduate assistant. He wrapped up his playing career this past season at NAIA Dalton State, and also spent time playing at both Hope International and Cerritos CC.
Sad to hear that long-time coach Kevin Dunne passed away recently. During his career he was an assistant at Northeastern, Cleveland State, Stonehill, and UMass Dartmouth. I was lucky enough to learn from him when we were at Stonehill together in the late 1990’s. He was a great X’s and O’s coach, and had the best moustache in college basketball. Here’s his obituary.
