Florida State Men’s Basketball head coach Luke Loucks announced Wednesday a pair of staff promotions ahead of the 2026-27 season, elevating Kyle Washington to assistant coach and Aiden Malone to director of basketball operations.
Washington has been promoted to assistant coach after serving as the Seminoles’ director of video and scouting during Loucks’ first season at Florida State. He arrived in Tallahassee after serving as an assistant coach at Iona during the 2024 and 2025 seasons while also working as the Gaels’ director of player development.
“From the day we put this staff together, Kyle has been instrumental in everything we’ve done,” said Loucks. “He’s an outstanding basketball mind, an elite relationship builder, has an infectious personality, and is someone our players and staff have tremendous respect for. With other high major programs pursuing him, we knew we wanted to reward his contributions and continue investing in his future at Florida State. This promotion reflects the value he brings to our program, and I couldn’t be more excited for him.”
Prior to Iona, Washington spent the 2023 season at Loyola Chicago, where he was instrumental in player development and scouting. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Cincinnati during the 2021-22 season, assisting with player development and video operations.
Malone has been promoted to director of basketball operations after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Florida State, including last season on Loucks’ inaugural staff with the Seminoles. His responsibilities included assisting with scouting, recruiting, and the day-to-day operations of the program.
“Aiden has been an incredible asset to our program since joining us as a graduate assistant,” said Loucks. “Throughout the past year, he consistently stepped up and played a vital role in every aspect of our operations, from planning and organization to helping our staff prepare and execute at the highest level. Promoting Aiden to director of basketball operations is a natural progression. His understanding of our program, attention to detail, and ability to anticipate the needs of our staff will make for a seamless transition.”
A familiar face around Florida State men’s basketball, Malone joined the Seminoles as a student manager in 2021.
Loucks and Florida State also celebrate the continued success of four former staff members who have accepted assistant coaching positions following their time in Tallahassee.
Former graduate assistant Jabril Durham has joined FIU as an assistant coach. Perin Foote, who served as the Seminoles’ director of basketball operations, has been named an assistant coach at North Alabama. Ryan Schnider, previously FSU’s assistant director of basketball operations, has accepted an assistant coaching position at Eckerd College, and former graduate assistant Aiden Frein has been named an assistant coach at Northwest Florida State College.
“It is never easy to see talented people leave Florida State, especially those who have played such an important role in building our culture, but it is also a necessary part of their growth and development. When our staff members earn opportunities to advance their careers, that is a reflection of the work they have put in and the impact they have made here.
“We are extremely excited for Jabril Durham, Perin Foote, Ryan Schnider, and Aiden Frein as they take the next step in their coaching careers as assistant coaches with their new universities. They have all contributed tremendously to our program, and we are proud to have played a role in their development.
