Back on 10/23, I mentioned that Vince Johnson would be named as the DBO at Lehigh (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/b6d46714/daily-dirt-10-23-14/…). It has now been made official…

– Vincent Johnson has been named Lehigh men’s basketball’s Director of Operations, as announced by head coach Brett Reed on Wednesday. Johnson replaces Rob Fusaro who recently departed for a similar position at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Johnson comes to Lehigh from Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, New Jersey where he served as assistant coach for two years.

"Thus far, I love Vince’s energy and passion," said Reed. "He has maturity and life experiences that he’s bringing to the position. He’s hungry for the opportunity and I think will serve this role very well."

Johnson has served as assistant coach at Pope John XXIII High School from 2012-14. While there, he assisted in game preparation and helped scout opponents, leading a highly success team that featured several All-County honors and a New Jersey Star Ledger West Jersey Player of the Year. From 2012-13, Johnson was the head coach of the freshman team, leading the squad to a 10-6 record.

In his time at Pope John XXIII High School, Johnson also coached a McDonald’s All-America nominee and a top 20 player in the USA. His team was nominated as both a New Jersey Star Ledger West Jersey Team of the Year and New Jersey Herald Team of the Year.

Johnson also has experience as varsity assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Nyack High School in Nyack, New York from 2011-12. Vincent helped lead to the team to its first playoff appearance in three years while also developing the strength program for the junior varsity team.

Johnson began his coaching career at his alma mater, St. Thomas Aquinas where he was volunteer assistant coach. Johnson did everything from film breakdown to one-on-one player workouts, offseason training, generating scouting reports and more. Johnson was a standout at St. Thomas Aquinas, averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 rebounds as a senior in 2009-10. The 2010 graduate also owns experience with Playaz Basketball Club, the Hoop Group, Five Star Basketball Camps and more. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management.
