Fifth-year head coach John Gallagher has announced the addition of Ben Farmer, a native of Clinton, Conn., to the University of Hartford men’s basketball staff. Farmer will serve as the team’s graduate manager, filling the spot vacated by former Hawk standout guard Clayton Brothers.

A standout men’s basketball player at Marist from 2004-08, Farmer joins the Hawks from Wesleyan University, where he spent one year as an assistant coach in 2013-14. That season, Wesleyan went 11-13 overall.

"I have known Ben Farmer and his family for over 10 years," explained Gallagher. "He is a first-class individual who enjoyed a solid collegiate career as a basketball player at Marist. He distinguishes himself with his character and work ethic, which are traits that fit our program well. We are excited that he is here and I look forward to working with him in the future".

Farmer graduated from Marist in 2008 after enjoying a stellar career on the court for the Red Foxes, helping the team post wins in 73 games during his four-year stint. As a junior in 2006-07, he started 33 games for a squad that set the school record for wins in a season (25), won the program’s first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season title and scored a first-round victory in the first-round of the postseason NIT against Oklahoma State.

Individually, Farmer closed out his career as one of Marist’s top threats from three-point land. Currently ranked third all-time in games played (117), his career three-point percentage of .421 is the third-best in Marist’s men’s basketball history. In addition, he also ranks ninth in the career record books in made three-pointers with 143.

Following graduation, Farmer spent four years as a medical sales consultant for a Fortune 500 company.
