Hasse named GA at Detroit

The University of Detroit Mercy men’s basketball staff is complete after head coach Ray McCallum announced the addition of Matthew Hasse to his staff as a graduate assistant coach.

"We’re excited to have Matt join our staff who is a former division I player at Austin Peay," said Coach McCallum. "He is great student of the game who will help work with the big guys on our team."

Hasse a Naperville, Ill., native joins the Titans staff after serving as a student assistant coach for his alma mater Austin Peay State University during the 2013-14 season. Hasse was a center for the Governors as a freshman and sophomore before a back injury during his junior campaign ended his playing career.

Hasse who received a bachelor’s degree in special education from Austin Peay served as SAAC President for the 2013-14 year. He was a five-time member of the Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, including two on the Dean’s List. He was also a member of the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll four times.

Hasse was born in Toledo, Ohio — his grandfather John Kucer played basketball for the Rockets — before moving to Naperville, Ill., where he attended Naperville North High School.
