Grand Rapids CC adds assistant

Emmanuel Tommy comes to GRCC with a ton of basketball coaching experiences at the College and High School level. Most recently Tommy was an Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Godwin Heights High School in, Wyoming, MI. While at Godwin in the 12’-13’ season he helped guide the Wolverines to a 23-3 Record, winning Conference, District, and Regional titles on their way to the Class B Final 4 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, MI. In the 13’-14’ season, his last season at Godwin, he helped guide the Wolverines to a School record 25 straight victories while finishing 25-1 and AP Class B #1 ranking in the seasons final AP Rankings.

Prior to his tenure at Godwin Heights, Tommy worked as the head freshman and junior varsity boys basketball coach as well as assistant varsity coach at Rogers High School from 2010-2012.

While attending Western Michigan University Tommy worked with the men’s basketball team under Head Coach Steve Hawkins from 2007-2010. In that time the Broncos won two MAC West Division Championships and produced MAC Player of the Decade in David Kool. Tommy’s primarily duties with the Broncos included day-to-day operations and working under Assistant Coach Bacari Alexander (Currently at The University of Michigan) with post player development.

For the last 7 years Tommy has been no stranger to the West Michigan basketball scene as he has been actively coaching AAU travel basketball with Camp Darryl Basketball Academy and in the last 4 years with the Grand Rapids Storm, a very prominent AAU team out of Grand Rapids which has produced several Division I – NAIA student-athletes.

A native of Grand Rapids, Coach Tommy graduated from Godwin Heights High School in 2004, where he was a 3-year varsity basketball player at his alma mater. He went on to attend Western Michigan University where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Public Relations and Management in June 2008. In August 2010 he received his Masters of Arts degree in Physical Education/Sports Studies. He and his wife Rachel, an employee of Grand Rapids Public Schools, reside in Kentwood, MI.
