Roanoke adds alum to staff

Roanoke College Alumnus, Curtis Peery ’09 joins the coaching ranks at Roanoke College after being named head golf coach and assistant men’s basketball coach.

No stranger to Roanoke College, the Salem native was a four-year letter-winner on the hardwood as a three year starter for Page Moir’s men’s basketball team. In his four years, Peery ranked 12th all-time in scoring (1,349) and rebounding (649), as well as 11th in free throws made. After graduation, he went on to be a Graduate Assistant for Roanoke men’s basketball alum, Frankie Allen ’71, at The University of Maryland Eastern Shores. After two years as a GA for the Hawks men’s basketball program, Peery was promoted to a full time Assistant Coach at UMES, where he stayed for the next two years.

Peery takes over for Rob Landis, who coached the Roanoke College men’s golf program since 2008. In that time, the Maroons finished in the top-three at the ODAC Championships on three different occasions, and were ranked 35th in the 2010 national poll.

In men’s basketball, Peery will be replacing former assistant coach Mike Strickland, who has assumed the role of Director of Basketball Operations at The Citadel.
