A standout in the Springfield community, McBride comes to UIS after four seasons as assistant coach at his alma mater Lanphier High School. Former Illinois basketball guard earned All-Big Ten honorable mention as a senior and was part of the 2005 NCAA Final Four team. McBride closed out his career at Illinois as the fifth winningest player in school history, playing 104 victories in his career. Prior to Illinois he was a standout at Lanphier as a three-time all-state selection. He is Lanphier’s all-time leading scorer with 2,068 points and is the leading all-time scorer among Springfield’s class AA players. In 2002, McBride helped lead the Lions to a runner-up finish in the state championship. McBride also touts coaching experience at Green County (KY) and Cairo High School.

"Rich has a great and well-deserved reputation here in Springfield as both a player and person," said Walker. "He will give us immediate credibility in the city and I know he will help us instantly on the court and on the recruiting trail."
