LSU of Alexandria announces staff

Head Coach Larry Cordaro is bringing three assistant coaches and one student assistant on board to assist him in starting and building the new program.

Casey Apetrei was the first hire and brought on board in the fall of 2013. Apetrei, from Mandeville, returns to Louisiana after coaching this past season at Frank Phillips College in west Texas. Previously, Apetrei worked two years on Roman Banks Southern University coaching staff and three years as a student assistant at Southeastern Louisiana where he worked with Cordaro.

Cordaro utilized his Southeastern Louisiana contacts a second time in hiring Brian Terwilliger to assist the Generals of LSUA. A Connecticut native, Terwilliger graduated from Southeastern Louisiana in 2013 after serving three seasons as a student assistant under Cordaro’s tutelage.

Jay Smith comes from Lafayette, La., where he spent the past eight seasons coaching boys’ basketball at Comeaux High School. There, Smith played an integral role in building a winning program less than 100 miles from LSUA.

The final member of the staff will be a student assistant. Taylor Smith, caught Coach Cordaro’s eye this past season at Pearl River Community College where he served as a student manager.

"It’s a staff I’m really excited about; a coaching staff with an enormous amount of energy and with people who are familiar with one another. We’re teachers, we’re role models, and we’ll motivate and lead with passion and integrity," said Cordaro.
