Seminole St. names Tuley head coach

Seminole State College announced today that Don Tuley current men’s basketball coach at Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, has agreed to become the new coach for the SSC Trojans for the coming year.

Seminole State College President, Dr. Jim Utterback, said, "We are excited about the addition of Coach Tuley to our staff. He brings with him a legacy of earned respect and demonstrated integrity that is the hallmark of the type of athletic programs we want at Seminole State College." Tuley has more than 30 years of coaching experience, 13 of which have been at the college level. He has been at Capitol Hill since 1981. He has compiled a record of 530 career wins and 220 career loses, along with 10 State Tournament appearances, 10 Area Championships and 20 Regional Championships.

He has also served as an Assistant Basketball Coach at Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City since 2012. His OCU team was Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Champions and NAIA National Qualifiers in 2013. His collegiate coaching experience also includes an assistant coaching position at Redlands Community College in El Reno from 1999 to 2011. While at Redlands, his teams were consistent National Tournament Qualifiers, and won the NJCAA Division II National Championship in 2002.

Tuley was named National Region 5 High School Coach of the Year in 2011 and was a finalist for the National High School Coach of the Year. He was a five-time All-City Athletic Coach of the Year and four-time Jim Thorpe Classic Basketball Coach. He was named by the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association as the Region 8 Coach of the Year.

In December of 2011, Tuley reached a milestone of 500 coaching victories, with a victory over Star Spencer High School in the Millwood Invitational in Oklahoma City. In 2009, Tuley was inducted into the Murray State College Hall of Fame as a player. He played for the Aggies of Murray State in 1974-75. He was inducted into the Capitol Hill Hall of Fame as a Coach in 2008. "I am excited to assume the position of head men’s basketball coach at Seminole State College," Tuley said. "I look forward to building on the tradition of success of the athletic programs at SSC."

SSC Athletic Director Dr. Brad Walck said that Tuley has a reputation as a successful coach who cares about the academic success and character of his players. "Coach Tuley is highly respected for his accomplishments on both the high school and college level. We are very fortunate to have someone with his experience and success step into this position," Walck said
