OFFICIAL: Kittell hired at Lake Region St.

On 4/12, I blogged that Joe Kittell was involved at Lake Region State (WY) (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/7d943f97/daily-dirt-4-12-13/…). He has now officially been hired – just wanted to pass along the press release…

Gillette College assistant men’s basketball coach Joe Kittell has accepted a head coaching position at Lake Region State College in Devil’s Lake, N.D.

Kittell has been an assistant at Gillette College for the past three years and is now ready to make that six-inch move over into the head coach’s chair.

“This is crazy. It’s a dream come true. It’s always something I’ve always wanted to do, to be a college basketball coach,” said Kittell, who came to Gillette after serving as the video coordinator at Colorado State University. “To get that opportunity in my home state, you can’t beat that.”

Kittell is originally from Minot, N.D. and a 2002 graduate of Garrison (N.D.) High School.

Kittell earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education K-12 in 2006 and master’s degree in Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science in 2008, both at North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.

He worked with Tim Miles, now the Head Coach at CSU, at NDSU for four seasons (2002-2006) while pursuing his bachelor’s degree. During his time in Fargo, the Bison recorded four straight winning seasons, and in 2004 made the transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I.

In 2006 Kittell worked at Mayville State University. During his time the Comets went 27-9, won the Dakota Athletic Conference regulars season and conference tournament championships, and made the NAIA Division II national championship game. In 2007-08 he was the assistant men’s basketball coach at North Dakota State College of Science an NJCAA Division I program. The team went 25-6 and won the Mon-Dak Conference tournament.
