Daily Dirt – 3/20/15

Great games yesterday, looking forward to more today. Best moment so far was watching the Butler game with my 9-year old daughter…when Kellen Dunham made a FT with 5:37 left, he stepped off the line before he shot the 2nd one. She jumped up and yelled “stay on the line!” Sure enough, he missed the second one. Very proud that she actually listens to my camp lectures…make or miss, STAY ON THE LINE!! Anyway, here’s what I’ve heard so far today…

• While I still believe VMI head coach Duggar Baucom is the leader at The Citadel, other names are now starting to surface. I’ve heard that Bethel (MN) head coach Doug Novak is involved, and will interview there next week. Novak spent four years as the top assistant under Ed Conroy at The Citadel. He went with Conroy to Tulane for three seasons before becoming the head coach at Bethel. He has also been the head coach at Anderson (SC). I have also heard that Lincoln Memorial (TN) head coach Josh Schertz is involved. His squad just wrapped up a 30-3 season, and he has compiled a 170-44 record in his seven seasons at LMU.

• A lot of buzz around East Tennessee State. I mentioned yesterday that Wichita assistant Steve Forbes was the “hot” name here. I have now heard from a great source that it is his job if he wants it. Should know more on this one following Wichita’s NCAA run…

• A name that I have now heard a few times at NAIA Marian (IN) is Evansville assistant Carson Harris. The Indiana native has been at Evansvile since 2009. Marian is looking to replace former Butler and Iowa head coach Todd Lickliter who resigned last month.

• I have heard the Prince George CC head coach Head Coach Xavier Joyner will be resigning effective May 1st. He will be headed over to coach with Nike Team Takeover AAU. Joyner led PGCC to Region titles in 2012, 2014 and 2015. Joyner was also the head coach at Montgomery College Germantown from 2004-2010.

• Nice to see Tommy Dempsey (Binghamton), Pat Chambers (Penn State), and Matt Langel (Colgate) all rewarded with contract extensions yesterday. Beers on them at the Final Four…
