Sendek’s extension approved at ASU

Arizona State head coach Herb Sendek has had his contract extension approved by the Arizona Board of Regents. Terms of the new deal are as follows:

1. An additional year will be added to the contract if ASU wins 20 games or appears in at least one NCAA Tournament game over the remaining years of the contract (2014-15 or 2015-16) or in any extension year added to the contract (2016-17 or 2017-18).

2. Two additional years will be added to the contract if ASU wins 25 games or appears in at least three NCAA Tournament games in any of the remaining years of the contract or in any extension years of the contract .

According to AZCentral, here are a few other contract details:

Effective July 1, 2015, his salary increases $100,000 to $1.3 million. On July 1, 2016, Sendek’s salary will jump to $1.5 million.

If Sendek’s contract is extended to the 2017-18 season, his salary would jump to $1.7 million, plus an amount equal to 50 percent of the total amount of athletic performance bonuses earned in the year for which the extension was triggered.

If Sendek’s contract is extended for 2018-19, his salary will increase to $1.9 million, plus an amount equal to 50 percent of the total amount of athletic performance bonuses earned in the year for which the extension was triggered.

The extension includes a number of performance and academic bonuses, including one tied to ASU’s Barrett Honors College. If the Sun Devils have one or two players enrolled in the college, Sendek would receive $25,000. Three or four would give him $50,000 and five or more would produce a bonus of $75,000.
