Late Night Dirt – 8/18/14

Crazy day at the HD World Headquarters…here’s some late night dirt…

• I have heard that RPI has wrapped up their search and for a head coach and will hire Clarkson’s Mark Gilbride. In four seasons as the head coach at Clarkson, Gilbride has compiled a 75-51 record. He has also been an assistant at Yale, Stonehill, and Amherst, where he was part of a staff that won the 2007 NCAA DIII National Championship. Look for the official announcement tomorrow.

• I have heard from a very good source that North Florida will hire Frank Young as their DBO. Young spent last season as an assistant to Patrick Belein at West Virginia Wesleyan. Young is a former player at West Virginia (played for John Beilein), and played overseas after graduation.

• Word on the street is that Bentley College head coach Jay Lawson will hire a former player to replace Kevin Bettencourt as the full-time assistant. Bettencourt departed to become the head coach at Endicott College earlier this month. The job has been offered and accepted – just waiting on the green light from HR before making the announcement.

• John Bowler has been hired as the top assistant at Des Moines Area Community College. Bowler was a standout at Eastern Michigan University, and then went on to play professionally in Germany for six seasons. The Illinois native joins the DMACC after spending last season as an assistant coach at Delta State University.
