Daily Dirt – 6/9/14

Some things that I have heard so far today…

• I have heard that Monmouth assistant Derrick Phelps is in line to become the associate head coach at Columbia. Phelps was a part of North Carolina’s 1993 National Championship squad, and played overseas until 2010. The NYC native has also worked in an administrative role at Fordham.

• It sounds like former Montana State assistant Shawn Dirden will land as an assistant at North Dakota. Dirden was not retained when Brian Fish took over at MSU earlier this spring. He has also been an assistant at South Dakota.

• Last night, I published the list of candidates at Marist (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/6aea8b9c/marist-candidates/…). I did leave one guy off – unintentionally. Current Marist assistant Paul Lee should have been included on the original list. Lee has served as an assistant at Marist for the past six years, the first five for Chuck Martin, and last season for Jeff Bower. From what I have heard, he does have the backing of the players.
