A bunch of things that I’ve heard…
• The search to replace Jeff Bower at Marist is in full swing. Winthrop associate head coach Mark Prosser is a “hot” name here right now. He is a 2002 Marist graduate and has also been an assistant at Bucknell and Wofford. Prosser, who is the son of the late Skip Prosser (former head coach at Xavier and Wake Forest), also spent time as the head coach at Brevard College (NC). I have not heard a time table on the search, but would assume that it needs to get done fairly quickly.
• I mentioned on 5/21 that Georgia staffer Byron Samuels was the “hot” name at Florida A&M (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/d8e635ec/late-night-dirt-5-21-14/…). Over the past 24 hours, he has gotten even hotter – keep an eye on this one over the next few days…
• Yesterday, I mentioned that Arizona assistant DBO Danny Peters was headed to Ball State as an assistant (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/52f19bee/di-assistants-on-the-m…). I have now heard that Arizona will hire Ben Tucker as his replacement. Tucker spent the past two seasons as an assistant at the college of Idaho, and was an assistant at Walsh College before that. He was a student manager at Arizona who worked for Lute Olson and Sean Miller.
• I have heard that Texas-Pan American assistant Elwyn McRoy is involved with a spot at Coppin State. McRoy worked for new Coppin State head coach Michael Grant at Stillman College. McRoy gained some national acclaim last year after this article about him appeared in the Chronicle of Higher Education (http://chronicle.com/article/Bounced-Around/139581http://chr…). It’s a great article for any young coach who is looking to get in to the business – it shows what a grind that this crazy profession can be. Plus he mentions HoopDirt in the article, so it gets two thumbs up from The DirtKing!
• I can confirm that Taylor Langley is the new head coach at Michigan-Dearborn. He had spent the past five seasons as an assistant at Davenport (MI). Before joining the Davenport staff, he was a HS coach in Michigan for six seasons. Look for the official announcement in the next few days.
