• I have heard that Penn assistant Scott Pera has departed and will join Mike Rhoades new staff at Rice. Pera spent the past two seasons as an assistant at Penn, and served as an assistant at Arizona State before that.
• Word on the street is that Emerson College (MA) had coach Jim O’Brien has resigned. The former Ohio State and Boston College head coach spent the past three seasons at Emerson. I have also heard that associate head coach Bill Curley will become the head coach there. He has been on O’Brien’s staff for the past three years. Curley also played for O’Brien at BC before spending seven seasons in the NBA.
• I have heard a few names that appear to be involved with the Mercy (NY) job. Jody King (Hostos CC), Jim Harter (former head coach at Pace), and Joan Sanchez (former head coach Concordia [NY]) are all believed to be in the mix. All three are local guys with good NY ties – something that is important to Mercy and their $10k position.
