Crazy day for The DirtKing – stuck in a departmental meeting all day which had nothing to do with basketball. Fortunately I still had email access, so I was able to stay up on what has been happening today – here’s what I’ve heard:

• I have heard that East Mississippi CC assistant coach Billy Begley is involved with a spot on Phil Cunningham’s new staff at Troy. Begley, who has been at EMCC for the past three seasons, played at Mississippi State when Cunningham was an assistant there.

• Multiple sources have reported that Jim Thorson has resigned as the head coach Mount Marty College (SD). He has been the head coach there for the past 18 seasons. Thorson has also been the head coach at Yankton College (SD), and an assistant at South Dakota State.

• It sounds like Bergen Community College (NJ) head coach Matt Odalen has stepped down. He was the head coach at BCC for the past two seasons and served as anbn assistant there for five seasons before that. I have heard that assistant coach Carlos Quinteros is currently serving has the interim head coach.

• We reported last week that Northern Michigan was down to four candidates for their vacant head coach position (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/961e54f8/n-michigan-down-to-four/…). One has now been eliminated from consideration with the news that Dan Evans has been hired as the head coach at Ohio Dominican (http://hoopdirt.com/news/b646bbbd/ohio-dominican-university-…). There are now three guys left standing: Winona State associate head coach Tom Brown, Valley City State head coach Jeff Kaminsky, and Ferris State head coach Bill Sall. It sounds like this search could be wrapped up in the next few days,
