Saturday Dirt – 4/6/13

Some things that I’ve heard so far this weekend…

• I can confirm that Oregon State assistant David Grace is headed to UCLA where he will join Steve Alford’s new staff. He had spent the past five seasons at OSU and has also been an assistant at San Francisco and Sacramento State.

• Multiple sources are reporting that Iona head coach Tim Cluess is beginning negotiations to become the next head coach at Hofstra. Cluess is a Hofstra alum and has been at the top of our list of potential candidates from day one. If the sides can come to terms, expect an announcement shortly.

• I have heard that Palm Beach State head coach Butch Estes has emerged as the leader at Barry University (FL). Estes is a coaching veteran who has served as the head coach at Furman, Miami-Dade, Guilford, and Presbyterian. He has also been an assistant at Miami, North Carolina, Rice, East Carolina, Seattle, and The Citadel. An announcement is expected here by the beginning of the week.

• The search at Clayton State is moving along. Athletic Director Carl McAloose has narrowed his list of candidates from nearly 200 down to 10. He will conduct phone interviews this weekend and sounds like he will bring 3-5 of the remaining candidates to campus next week. I’ve heard that it’s a pretty good mix of DI assistants and DII head coaches in the final ten.
