Daily Dirt II – 4/2/13

A few more things that I’ve heard today…

• New South Alabama head coach Matthew Graves is starting to assemble his staff. I’ve heard that Butler DBO Darnell Archey and former Butler standout Ronald Nored will be joining his staff. Archey is a Butler alum who has been on the Bulldogs staff for the past four seasons. Nored played on Butler’s 2010 and 2011 Final Four teams and has been an HS coach in Indiana. He is originally from Alabama.

• I mentioned on 3/16 that I heard Cleveland State associate head coach Jayson Gee could be involved at Longwood (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/5fc25a0f/saturday-dirt-3-16-13/…). He now appears to be the “hot” name there. I thought that Wake Forest assistant Rusty LaRue and ODU interim head coach Jim Corrigan were the last two standing, but it appears that Gee has made a strong charge here. I’ve even heard that the two sides may be talking contract today.

• According to NJ.com, ESPN is planning on running a story about Rutgers head coach Mike Rice that will include the video of him throwing basketballs at players heads. This is what lead to his suspension earlier this year. Sounds like a pretty messy story here: http://www.nj.com/rutgersbasketball/index.ssf/2013/04/espn_r…#incart_flyout_sports
