Daily Dirt II – 3/27/13

Here we go – round 2…

• Iona head coach Tim Cluess is emerging as the leader at Hofstra. I have heard a ton of names that are said to be “involved”, but Cluess is very strong here. He is a Hofstra alum and has won 70 games in three seasons at Iona. Before taking over at Iona, he was the head coach at LIU Post where he compiled a 98-23 record in four seasons. He also spent 14 seasons as the head coach at St. Mary’s HS on Long Island where he went 264-78. I will publish my complete list of candidates tomorrow, but Cluess is definitely the “hot” name right now.

• Stony Brook associate head coach Jay Young visited Marist today. He’s a Marist alum who has been on the Stony Brook staff for the past seven season. Had a lot of success as a head coach at New Haven and has also been as assistant at Northeastern.

• I have also heard that Norfolk State head coach Anthony Evans is now involved at Marist and will most likely interview there Thursday or Friday. He is a NY native who has also been the head coach at Delhi Tech (NY) and Ulster CC (NY). His #15 Spartans knocked off #2 Missouri in last years NCAA Tournament.

• I have heard that former Campbell assistant Ryan Ridder will be the next head coach at Daytona State (FL). He had been at Campbell since 2010. He is the son of long-time Embry-Riddle (FL) head coach Steve Ridder. It sounds like the announcement will come on Monday.

• From a great source…McMurray assistants Phillipe Lilavois and Cinco Boone will follow head coach Chris Beard to Angelo State. Lilavois had spent one season on the McMurry staff – he was an assistant at Jacksonville College for three seasons before that. Boone also just finished his first year at McMurry. He has also been an assistant at Stephen F. Austin and Jacksonville College.
