Marist update

An update on the search at Marist…

I’ve got two great sources working on this one. I can confirm that interviews have begun and that there is a candidate on campus today (I can’t mention which one, but can say he is on my original list).

Speaking of my original list – I can confirm that four out of the five are in the mix. The only one who is not is Minnesota’s Joe Espisito – I’ve been told that he is not involved. Here’s the list from earlier this week: http://hoopdirt.com/blog/96bde4fc/marist-rumors/…

I have been told to add five names to the list. They are:

• Bobby Hurley – Associate head coach URI. Would obviously bring name recognition. Scored over 1,700 points at Duke and played in the NBA for six seasons. Was on his brother Dan’s staff at Wagner for two seasons before moving to URI with him.

• Dave Paulsen – Head coach Bucknell. Obviously a hot name this year. Word on the street is that he has already been in contact with Marist. Won the Patriot League title and 28 games this past season.

• Jim Fox – Associate head coach Davidson. Has had tremendous success as an assistant on Bob McKillops staff for the past twelve seasons. He is a New York native who attended SUNY-Geneseo. His father started the Long Island Lightning AAU program.

• Mark Prosser – Assistant coach Winthrop. Played at Marist – graduated in 2002. This past season was his first on the staff at Winthrop. Has also been an assistant at Bucknell and Wofford. Is the son of late Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser.

• Brett Reed – Head coach Lehigh. Has led his squad to three straight 20-win seasons, including an NCAA Tourney victory over Duke last season. Like Paulsen, a Patriot League guy who may be looking to jump to a bigger league.
