BREAKING: Pennell resigns at Grand Canyon

After leading his squad to a 23 win season and a DII NCAA appearance, Russ Pennell has resigned his post at Grand Canyon. In his four seasons at GCU, he went 72-44. Before landing at Grand Canyon, Pennell took over as Arizona’s interim head coach after legendary U of A coach Lute Olson announced his retirement, Oct. 24, 2008. He had been hired in May of 2008 to be a Wildcat assistant coach. Along with leading U of A to the national tournament, Pennell’s team went 21-14 overall.

Grand Canyon is transitioning to DI and will be a member of the WAC next season.

The University has already scheduled a 10:00am press conference on Monday to announce their new head coach.
