Daily Dirt – 10/17/12

Practice is off to a great start here – fired up to be back on the court! I hope everyone else is enjoying themselves so far as well. Here are a few things that I’ve heard over the past few days…

• Former Hartford head coach Paul Brazeau has been named Big East senior associate commissioner for men’s basketball. He went 100-122 in his 8 seasons at Hartford (1992-2000). He was most recently the Vice President of Basketball Operations for the NBA.

• Louisiana-Lafayette head coach Bob Marlin has begun negotiations on a contract extension. He is 30-31 in his two seasons at UL and won 255 games in 12 seasons at Sam Houston State before that. It sounds like they want to add additional years to the contract, but there has no mention of additional compensation.

• Former Nichols College head coach Dave Sokolnicki has landed as the head coach at St. Thomas Aquinas HS (NH). Sokolnicki resigned this past spring after guiding the Bison for the past 13 seasons. The 1996 Nichols grad went 150-178 during his tenure.

• Another former college guy to the HS ranks…Former Cardinal Stritch University assistant Krayton Nash has been named as the head coach at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (WI). He has also been an assistant at Concordia University-Chicago and Carroll University.

• I have heard that Chase Campbell has been hired as an assistant at Newberry College (SC). He was most recently a student assistant at Paine College (GA) and also was an AAU coach.
