Some mid-week "dirt"…

• I have heard that the University of South Dakota will hire Lloyd Williams as an assistant. He is the husband of recently hired USD women’s coach Amy Williams and was most recently a HS coach in Oklahoma. Williams has also been an assistant at Texas-San Antonio and the head coach at Rogers State (OK).

• Former Toledo head coach Gene Cross will be named as the new head coach of the Erie Bayhawks (D-League). Cross spent two seasons at the helm at Toledo where he compiled an 11-53 record. He has also been an assistant at Notre Dame, Virginia, DePaul and Illinois-Chicago. The official announcement is expected this afternoon.

• WVU Tech Assistant Coach, Adam Williams, has accepted the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations spot on Donnie Jones’ staff at the University of Central Florida. He replaces JP Clark, who took a staff position with the Boston Celtics. Adam Williams played at Marshall University, and served as a GA at Marshall under Donnie Jones prior to his two seasons at WVU Tech. Jacob Gruse has been hired as Williams’ replacement as the full-time assistant at WVU Tech. Gruse comes to Tech from Dan River HS (VA),where he was the Head Coach since 2005. Gruse led Dan River to the state championship game in 2008. Dan River was 25-1 in 2011-12 under Gruse.

• I have heard that former Saginaw Valley State head coach Frankie Smith is on the move again. After resigning at SVSU this past spring, he became the head coach at Mingo Central HS (WVa). After just a few months on the job, he has resigned and will become the head coach at Sheldon

Clark HS (KY). He went 60-73 in his five seasons at SVSU (2007-2012).
