Daily Dirt – 8/15/12

Busy day today here at the HD World Headquarters….

• From a great source…It sounds like William & Mary will hire Kevin Hogan as the director of basketball operations. He spent last season as an assistant at Tallahassee CC, and has also been an assistant at Florida A&M. He is the son of Coastal Carolina associate head coach Don Hogan.

• Yesterday we posted a news story about Redlands CC head coach Yaphett King being named as an assistant at Texas A&M –Corpus Christi (http://hoopdirt.com/news/7ba5f4ac/king-named-ac-texas-aampm-…). I have now heard that Redlands assistant coach Earnest Crumbley will become the interim head coach for the 2012-13 season. Crumbley has been in the RCC staff for two seasons, and has also worked at Florida Atlantic University and the University of North Florida.

• I have heard that West Virginia Tech volunteer assistant Neil Dixon has accepted an assistant spot at Fairmont State University (WVa.) Dixon was with WV Tech for one season, helping Tech to a 21-8 record. He was previously on staff at Greenbrier East High School (WV). Also, WV Tech student assistant Nic Kjaerholt has accepted a GA position on the basketball staff at Rio Grande University. Kjaerholt hails from Denmark and played for Broome Community College and WV Tech.

• I have heard that New Mexico JC has hired Brian Lohrey as an assistant. Lohrey was most recently an assistant at Central Missouri. He has also worked at Dallas Baptist University and was a walk-on at Colorado State.

• I can confirm that Former Henry Ford Community College (MI) assistant Scott Newman has been hired as the lead assistant to Head Coach Roy Webb of the Pontiac Firebirds (ABA). The Firebirds will be making their franchise debut in the American Basketball Association during the 2012-2013season.
