Daily Dirt – 5/21/12

I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to be a good week! First time in forever that the market is up, Lebron and D-Wade looked like basketball players last night, and Memorial Day is right around the corner! Here’s the "Daily Dirt"…

• I can confirm that former Grambling assistant Tae Norwood has accepted an assistant position on the staff at Northern Michigan. He has also been an assistant at Florida Gulf Coast and Georgia Southern.

• I have heard from two separate sources that Weber State assistant Tim Gardner is resigning to pursue business opportunities. Gardner had been on the Weber State staff for the past six seasons after spending seven seasons as the head boy’s basketball coach at Juan Diego High School in Draper, Utah.

• Greg Himes has resigned as the head men’s basketball coach a tSouthern State CC (OH). He was OCAC Co-Coach of the Year the last two years. Himes will be going into a basketball scouting and camp business and will pursue other coaching opportunities.

• I have heard that Northwood University (TX) has hired Ray Wilkerson as the new head basketball coach. Wilkerson will have the task of starting the program at the NAIA school. It sounds like Northwood expects to field both varsity and JV teams for the upcoming season.

• Nice story from the NY Post on Steve Lavin’s recovery from prostate cancer. According to the article, the prostate cancer that sidelined him from most of the past season is gone. Here’s a like to the story: http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/college/basketball/lavin_new_…
