Daily Dirt – 5/15/12

Today’s “Daily Dirt”…

• According to multiple sources, Parkland College head coach Nate Mast has resigned and will accept the DBO spot on Barry Hinson’s new staff at Southern Illinois. Mast had spent the previous three seasons at Parkland. He has also worked in operations at Kansas, and as an assistant at Arkansas-Ft. Smith. When Mast was a staffer at Kansas, Hinson was an assistant there.

• I can confirm that Texas Tech assistant Jeff Kidder has departed to become the new head coach at Taylor County HS (KY). Kidder had just completed his first season at Texas Tech. He has a career record of 432-109 in 16 years as a junior college head coach at Howard College (1991-93), Dixie State College (1997-05) and Indian Hills Community College (2006-11).

• Speaking of college guys headed to HS…Ron Ginyard has left the staff at Niagara and has accepted the head coach position at St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes School in DC. Ginyard is a local guy who went to Paul VI Catholic and later Georgetown. In addition to his time at Niagara, he has also been an assistant at Navy and Columbia.

• Yet another guy headed for a HS gig…it sounds like Ryan Worley, who had spent 8 seasons as an assistant at the College of the Ozarks assistant will become the head coach at Sparta HS (MO).

• I can confirm that Jason Gillespie will be the next head coach at Virginia Intermont. He had been the AD and head basketball coach at Cincinnati Christian University. He has also served as the head coach at Bluefield College for four seasons (92-41).

• I have heard that Anthony Elias has accepted the top assistant spot at Morningside College. Elias was hired as the head coach at Blue Mountain CC in February. He replaces Brad Schmit who left Morningside May 1st to pursue other coaching opportunities.
