Daily Dirt – 5/3/12

Here’s Thursday’s “dirt”…

• I have heard that Marquette’s Buzz Williams is considering former Air Force Head Coach Jeff Reynolds for a spot on his staff. Reynolds had been the head coach at Air Force for 6 seasons before being released on February 8th. He has also been the head coach at Wingate and N.C. Wesleyan, and served as an assistant at Tulane.

• Vanderbilt assistant Dan Muller will interview at Illinois State today. He is an Illinois State alum and has been at Vanderbilt since 2000 (played for current Vandy HC Kevin Stallings at ISU). I’ve also heard that Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti will also interview there – possibly tomorrow. He was an assistant there from 1989-92. Current ISU assistant Rob Judson is also expected to get an interview, and may have a deal in place that would keep him at ISU as an assistant if he doesn’t get the head job. I’ve also heard Michigan State assistant Dwayne Stephens name mentioned here.

• Sounds like IMG Academy coach Vince Walden is headed back to his home state and will accept a spot on the staff at Liberty University. Probably explains why he didn’t return my call yesterday! He had been at IMG since 2006.

• Some names that I’ve heard surrounding the vacancy at West Virginia Wesleyan are: Jimmy Voight (former HC Bluefield State), Dwaine Osborne (head coach Texas-Permian Basin), and John Meeks (head coach Wallace State). I still have not heard a time table for the hiring.
