Daily Dirt – 4/19/12

I’ve talked about the NC A&T gig a few times over the past week. I can confirm the four finalists (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/697a8993/nc-aampt-update/…), and I am now hearing that Cy Alexander may be the leader in the clubhouse. According to multiple sources, he may have already been offered the job. From what I’ve gathered, he is currently mulling over the offer, and a decision should be made by the weekend. Also, my source says that Alexander’s deal would be for four years at around $170,000 per season.

William & Mary assistant Ben Wilkins will assume a similar role at Mt. St. Mary’s under new head coach Jamion Christian. The pair worked together as assistants at William & Mary. Wilkins has also been an assistant at Barton College (NC), and served as the video coordinator at NC State.

Sounds like Drake has lost a couple of staff members. Assistant Mike Gibson has resigned to enter the private sector. Gibson had been at Drake for the past four seasons. He had also served in ops roles at Arizona State and Michigan State. Also, coordinator of operations Jamelle McMillan has resigned as well. He is the son of former NBA player and head coach Nate McMillan. He will apparently pursue other opportunities in basketball. He joined the Drake staff immediately after graduating from Arizona State in 2011.

I have heard that Tim Riley is in the mix to replace Joe Pechota at Brescia University (KY). Riley had great success as a HS coach in Kentucky – he holds a 338-215 record in 21 seasons, including a 307-128 mark in the last 14 years at Warren Central. He also was inducted into the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Court of Honor in 2010. Most recently he served as a women’s assistant at his alma mater Western Kentucky.
