Daily Dirt – 4/11/12

Some mid-week “dirt”….

The search at Brown will finally begin to heat up. Late last week, Brown finally hired an AD – they brought in Jack Hayes, who had been the AD at Hofstra. Eventhough he won’t officially start at Brown until July 1st, he said that he will address the basketball situation quickly and be very involved in the search. He will most likely put together a search committee, but the decision is ultimately his.

It has not been a well kept secret, but new Illinois head coach is not going to retain assistant Jerrance Howard. Illinois will owe Howard $180,000 for the one year he had remaining on his contract. There’s no official word yet, but it sounds like he may land on his feet at Kansas State with his old boss Bruce Weber.

I can confirm that VMI has rewarded head coach Duggar Baucom with a two-year contract extension. The additional years will now take his contract through the 2017 season. VMI won 17 games this past season and advanced to the Big South championship game.

Rick Majerus’ name has popped up a few times now when talking about the SMU search. Majerus led St. Louis to a 26 win campaign this season and beat Memphis in the NCAA tourney before bowing out to Michigan State. Keep an eye on this one…
