Daily Dirt II – 4/5/12

A few late night quick hitters…..

• I’ve heard that Akron is trying to work on an extension for head coach Keith Dambrot. After some speculation late last week about Duquesne reaching out to him, it sounds like the administration is going to make sure he stays happy at Akron. Dambrot has compiled a 184-87 record in his 8-years at Akron.

• Long Beach State head coach Dan Monson has turned down the SMU job. After not being able to land Buzz Williams, there is much speculation that the Mustangs will turn their attention to Harvard’s Tommy Amaker.

• It sounds like TCU is targeting Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon. Even though Dixon had a disappointing season at Pitt, he is a TCU alum and would have a ton of support from the community. It’s not known however if Dixon is as interested as TCU would like him to be.

• I keep hearing New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies name come up when talking about Colorado State. As I mentioned earlier today, current CSU assistant Craig Smith has interviewed for the job, but everyone I talk to keeps mentioning Menzies. His Aggies won 26 games this past season and received an NCAA bid.
