Daily Dirt II – 3/14/12

Late night "dirt" to wrap up another busy day….

I’ve heard that there will be a change at Western Wyoming CC. According to a well placed source, Trace Bevell is no longer the head coach at WWCC. He had been the head coach there for the past five seasons going 107-59 (23-9 this season). Prior to coming to Western Wyoming Community College, Coach Bevell served three years as the Head Coach at Western Nebraska Community College in Scottsbluff, NE, and for 9 years as the Head Coach and Athletic Director at McCook Community College in McCook, NE. Not sure what the deal is here, but I’ll pass along more info as it becomes available.

It also sounds like Raritan Valley Community College (New Jersey) head coach Ted Black will not return. Black led his team to a 21-10 record this season. Another interesting situation here – I should have more on this one in the next few days.

Sounds like UAB head coach Mike Davis will have to wait a bit longer to learn his fate. Davis and AD Brian Mackin met briefly today to discuss Davis’ future. Mackin, who is on the NCAA DI WBB tourney committee will be out of town until next week while he is working at one of the regional sites. He is not scheduled to return to UAB until Wednesday. I would expect to hear more then.

I can confirm that Jonah Taussig will be the next head coach at Saint Mary’s University (Canada). He will replace Ross Quackenbush who retired after 23 seasons at the helm. Taussig has spent the past eight seasons as an assistant to Quackenbush at SMU. He is believed to have beaten out Rick Plato – the head coach at Mount St. Vincent (Canada) for the job.

I should have updates on Winthrop, Samford, SMU, and South Carolina tomorrow.
