Daily Dirt – 9/7/11

Here’s today’s dirt….

I’ve heard that Cal Baptist has added Troy Johnson to its Men’s Basketball staff. Johnson has had stops at San Jose State University, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Western New Mexico and was the head coach at Merritt College in Oakland. CBU is has made the transition to NCAA DII and is a member of The Pacific West Conference.

I can confirm that Jim Casciano has been named head coach at Maine-Presque Isle. This seems like a great hire for the small Northern Maine school – Casciano has gotten it done at all levels. He has been a head coach at all levels NCAA DI (NJIT), DII (St. Michael’s), and DIII (King’s). He has also been an NAIA head coach (Castleton State), and most recently coached an NJCAA school (Union County College). Casciano began his career coaching as an assistant to the legendary Rollie Massimino at Villanova. He has also worked at Delaware, Washington & Lee, Old Dominion and Radford, plus spent three years as a women’s basketball assistant at Temple.

Earl Redden has resigned as an assistant at Hagerstown CC (MD). He had been on the staff there for the past eight seasons. Apparently he has received a promotion at his “real” job (with Food Lion Supermarkets) and has to relocate to Gainesville, Fla.

Not sure if this is news worthy, but I found it interesting. Looks like a farmer in Kentucky has made a corn maze to look like John Calipari. Very strange, but worth a peek…….http://www.kentucky.com/2011/09/01/1865389/farm-makes-corn-m…
