The search at Penn State is moving swiftly. Just to recap….East Carolina head coach Jeff Lebo and Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint have both said that they are not interested in the job. They were two early targets. Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart interviewed this week and I’ve heard that there will be at least three other interviews.
A hot name has been Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik. If I were a betting man however (which I am not, NCAA rules prohibit that), I would bet that Wojcik stays at Tulsa. The other names that are making the rounds are Boston University head coach Pat Chambers, and Milwaukee head coach Rob Jeter (a former assistant at Wisconsin, so he knows the Big Ten). I’ve also heard former Bucknell head coach Pat Flannery’s name mentioned, but I’m not sure how serious of a candidate he is. An assistant whose name is beginning to heat up is Arizona State’s Scott Pera. He’s 1989 graduate of Penn State, a Hershey, PA native and was a HS coach in the state. He has the right connections and pedigree – the longer this search takes, the better shot he has at the job. I’ll keep you updated as I hear more.
