Some things that I heard over the weekend….
A few more names to add to the list at Radford –Oakland associate head coach Jeff Tungate and Clemson assistant Mike Winiecki . Here’s my original list: http://hoopdirt.com/blog/a8c4a295/radford-rumors/…
John Becker is beginning to assemble his staff at Vermont. Assistant Matt O’Brien will remain on the staff. He has been at UVM for the past three seasons, two as the DBO, and last season as an assistant. I’ve also heard that former Catamount Maurice (MoJo) Joseph is being considered for the DBO spot. Joseph played at Vermont for two seasons after transferring from Michigan State.
Memphis assistant Glynn Cyprien is leaving to accept a spot on the new staff at Texas A&M. Cyprien and new A&M coach Billy Kennedy are both New Orleans guys, and close friends. Memphis head coach Josh Pastner is now looking to fill two spots. Former assistant Willis Wilson departed earlier this spring to become the head coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. I have heard that Cleveland State assistant Jermaine Kimbrough is in the mix for one of these spots.
I’ve heard that Boston University assistant Dwayne Killings is involved with the vacant assistant job at Temple. He was the assistant director of basketball operations at Temple under head coach Fran Dunphy from 2006-09 before joining the staff at BU two years ago.
Kellen Sampson (Kelvin’s son) is leaving Stephen F. Austin to accept a spot on the staff at Appalachian State. Before SFA, Sampson was on the staff at Oklahoma where he worked for Jeff Capel (Capel’s brother Jason is the head coach at Appalachian State).
Sounds like Michigan-Dearborn head coach Vince Turner is in the mix to replace Geoff Warren at Wilberforce University. I’ve also heard that if he’s hired, he will become the Director of Athletics as well.
Joe Richardson, who was the interim head coach at Northwest Florida last season, is involved with an assistant spot at Faulkner University (AL). Richardson was one of three finalists for the NWF job that eventually went to Steve Forbes this spring.
