A lot of names have been popping up as possible replacements for Mark Turgeon at Texas A&M. It sounds like AD Bill Bryne wants to move quickly here. The name that may be at the top of the list is Colorado head coach Tad Boyle. Byrne and Boyle have some history together, and Boyle is very close to Turgeon. Byrne was the AD at Oregon when Boyle was an assistant there (Turgeon was also on that staff). Also, Boyle and Turgeon were teammates at Kansas and Boyle was Turgeon’s assistant at Jacksonville State and Wichita State. Boyle is a Colorado native, so I’m not sure he’s looking to get out, but all indications are that he’s a prime target. Other names that have popped up are Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler, former St. John’s and New Mexico head coach Fran Fraschilla, and Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall. It sounds like Marquette head coach Buzz Williams (a former A&M assistant) and Memphis head coach Josh Pastner were on the short list, but have both decided not to pursue the job.
