Here are a bunch of items that have come across my desk in the past few days….
It sounds like DII Henderson State will be wrapping up interviews on Thursday and could possibly make a decision over the weekend. The most interesting name that I’ve heard here is Rand Chappell. He was most recently the head coach at DI Central Arkansas before getting released last spring. Prior to that, he spent five seasons at Henderson State going 120-40.
I’ve heard that Western Kentucky assistant coach Ray Harper has spoken to Oklahoma City University about returning to be their head coach. He helped guide Oklahoma City University to a 95-17 mark the three seasons prior to joining the WKU staff. He also led them to two straight NAIA DI National Championships.
Cowley College head coach Tommy DeSalme is rumored to be involved with the job at his alma mater Southeastern Oklahoma State. In addition to being a former assistant at Southeastern, he has also been the head coach at Kansas Wesleyan University and Sterling College.
DIII Newbury College (MA) has made a coaching change and will not retain head coach Evan O’Brien. In his three years at the helm, he was 24-53. He was formerly an assistant at the school before taking over in 2008.
There has been no official announcement, but Southern Illinois has parted ways with assistants Lance Irvin and Marcus Belcher. They have both been removed from the roster and one of the spots has already been filled by Ron Smith. These are part of the changes that were talked about when Chris Lowrey was given a vote of confidence last week.
