From what I’ve heard, Georgia State has hired Parker Executive Search to help find a replacement for Rod Barnes. The plan is to have a new coach in place by the Final Four. Here are the names that I’ve heard so far:
Phil Cunningham – Assistant Coach Mississippi State. Was the Associate Head Coach at Georgia State under Lefty Driesell – part of some of the best GSU teams ever.
Dip Metress – Head Coach Augusta State (GA). Currently 26-3 at ASU. Is 141-46 in his 6 seasons at ASU.
Dennis Felton – Former Head Coach at Georgia. Would bring some name recognition to the program. Has been involved with some NBA scouting over the past few years. Still lives in Georgia.
Mark Gottfried – Former Head Coach at Alabama. Is looking to get back in. His name will probably be linked to every low / mid-major job that opens in the south.
Andy Enfield – Assistant Coach Florida State. Former NBA assistant with the Bucks and Celtics. Has been at FSU since 2006.
Paul Graham – Current Interim Head Coach at Georgia State. Has been a DI head coach before at Washington State (1999-2003). Has been told by the administration that he will be considered for the position if he is interested.
This search should heat up in the next week or so if the administration is serious about getting it done by the Final Four.
