Indiana University Kokomo seeks qualified candidates for three separate graduate assistantships: Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, and Sports Information/Athletic Administration. Indiana University Kokomo athletics is an intercollegiate athletic program and a Division II member of the NAIA. IU Kokomo offers men’s and women’s cross country, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball. Graduate Assistantships are part-time, 10-month academic year appointments from August 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015.
Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant and Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant (two separate positions): Reporting to the respective Head Coaches, the graduate assistant for each program will assist the head coach in all facets of the program. Essential duties for both positions include, but are not limited to: Demonstrate and teach advanced basketball skills; assist with coaching during athletic contests and practices; run small group workouts ;monitor and assist with strength training program; assist with team schedule and travel, fund-raising, scouting opponents, and recruiting and evaluating new players; assist with maintaining statistics and coordinating with officials, implementation of the academic program including enforcement of study tables and monitoring progress of student athletes to ensure academic eligibility; work with student athletes and monitor adherence to rules and regulations concerning conduct, team expectations, punctuality and appearance. Regular evening and weekend work required.
Each position is part-time, averaging 20 hours per week. Compensation includes fee remission (in-state tuition rate) for up to 9 credit hours per semester (depending on academic program requirements, total stipend of $6000 over the 10-month appointment and eligibility for the graduate student health insurance program. Fee remissions does not cover dedicated fees, mandatory fees, course related fees or audit hours.
