The Head Men’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the overall direction and management of the Men’s Basketball program. This includes day-to-day administrative and program management leadership; recruitment, retention, and skills training, as it relates to the development of a competitive NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball program capable of winning CIAA championships and capable of competing for a National championship. The Head Coach is accountable for ensuring the team’s compliance with NCAA and CIAA rules and regulations and with University policies, procedures and budgetary constraints. The Head Coach will actively participate in fundraising endeavors and committee service as assigned. The position is accountable for ensuring effective personal management of subordinate personnel, interpersonal relationships, projects, materials, budgetary costs, and continuous quality improvement

• Effectively lead and direct the University’s Men’s Basketball program and subordinate personnel to develop a competitive NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball program capable of winning CIAA championships and competing for a National championship.
• Demonstrate success in Men’s Basketball skill instruction, practice/game plan strategy and development, administrative coaching responsibilities and understanding of NCAA rules compliance.
• Effectively teach fundamentals and strategies of Men’s Basketball, including the physical demonstration of effective Men’s Basketball maneuvers.
• Successfully coach strategy during Men’s Basketball games.
• Successfully recruit and retain talented athletes that will meet the admission requirements of Shaw University and eligibility/continuing eligibility requirements of NCAA, CIAA and Shaw University.
• Effectively counsel student-athletes on requirements for personal conduct, academic performance, and athletic participation, including good sportsmanship.
• Pass NCAA Division II Certification Test.
• Fundraise effectively.
• Effectively manage and maintain the Men’s Basketball budget.
• Direct the efficient allocation and economical utilization of Men’s Basketball services, equipment and supplies.
• Successfully recruit and retain qualified subordinate coaching staff.
• Professionally represent the University, including active participation in community engagement activities and events.
• Flexibility and willingness to periodically travel independently and work extended workdays and occasional weekends as needed to meet desired objectives.
• Legally operate an automobile, possession of a valid driver’s license, and an insurable driving record.
