Clemson has decided not to renew the contract of assistant basketball coach Steve Smith. Last week, Smith was heard on wiretap in a New York courtroom discussing the recruitment of Duke star Zion Williamson, and Clemson’s football program.
Clemson released the following statements:
STATEMENT FROM CLEMSON ATHLETICS:
Clemson Athletics has not renewed the contract of assistant men’s basketball coach Steve Smith, which expired on April 30, 2019.
STATEMENT FROM HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH BRAD BROWNELL:
I support the decision not to renew Steve Smith’s contract.
