University of Jamestown Athletic Director Sean Johnson has announced that Alan Magnani has resigned as head men’s basketball coach.
“We are very grateful for Coach Magnani’s leadership of the Jimmie men’s basketball program through a very successful season which culminated in a 2015 NSAA regular season title. We respect and appreciate his dedication to his family and his desire to return home to Iowa and wish him nothing but the best,” states Johnson.
“I cannot begin to thank the University of Jamestown, President Badal, and Lawrie Paulson for the confidence they had in hiring me to direct the men’s basketball program. It was my honor to be the head coach of such a tradition-rich program” Magnani stated. “I will always treasure the successes our team achieved in 2014-15, both on the court and academically. I will also cherish the relationships that have been fostered with my assistants Danny Neville and Brady Cameron, as well as our players and hope they are all ones that last a lifetime.”
Magnini served as head coach since June 2014. He led the Jimmies to a 20-9 record and the North Star Athletic Association regular season championship. He was also named NSAA Coach of the Year.
The University has named Danny Neville as Magnani’s successor. Neville has served as the assistant coach of the Jimmie’s men’s basketball team for the past three years. Prior to coming to Jamestown, he was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Presentation College. Neville played at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa. While at Grand View, he helped the Vikings to a 50-17 record in his last two years. The Vikings were ranked in the top 25 both years, and were ranked as high as #7 in the country. Neville earned his BA in Sports Management/Business from Grand View University in 2010 and his MA in Athletic Administration from Concordia Irvine University in 2015.
“This is an exciting opportunity that I have been preparing for since I began my coaching career, and I am grateful to lead the University of Jamestown men’s basketball program and continue to build on the great tradition,” says Neville. “I want to thank President Badal, Polly Peterson and Sean Johnson for their belief in me to guide the Jimmie basketball program into the future.”
“We are fortunate to have Danny Neville step into this important leadership role,” says Johnson. “Coach Neville has the unanimous support of our coaching staff and administration, and his hard work and dedication to the University of Jamestown is reflected in this appointment. He is an outstanding communicator, recruiter, educator and is dedicated to the game of basketball. We always strive to do what is best for our student-athletes, and today’s decision reflects the dedication to this goal.”
