The Methodist men’s basketball team held Ferrum to 38 points and Head Coach David Smith picked up career win number 200 with a 57-38 win at Swartz Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Smith picked up career win number 200 in his seventh attempt at the milestone. He is the program’s all-time winningest coach and now has a career record of 200-226.
The two-time USA South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year has won four conference regular season championships, two conference tournament championships and two trips to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
In his 16 seasons, he has produced 27 All-Conference selections, as well as a USA South Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and two USA South Tournament Most Valuable Players.
Smith had previously served the Monarchs as an assistant varsity coach for the four seasons under former head coach and current Methodist athletic director Bob McEvoy, in addition to serving as the head junior varsity coach.
