Jacksonville State announced tonight that the school and head basketball coach James Green “mutually agreed” that he will step down. Assistant coach Reggie Sharp will serve as interim head coach during the coaching search.
Green had been the head coach of the Gamecocks for the past eight seasons. His team finished this season with an 8-23 (4-12 record) – Green went 89-153 during his tenure.
Before coming to JSU back in 2008, Green had been the head coach at Mississippi Valley State and Southern Mississippi.
“I want to thank Coach Green for his years of service and recognize the work he and all of his assistants have done in support of our student-athletes,” JSU Athletics Director Greg Seitz said. “There is no question that our men’s basketball program is in much better shape now than when Coach Green took over eight years ago.”
“We are proud of the things we were able to accomplish in eight years at Jacksonville State,” said Green. ” I’ve made numerous friendships that I will cherish for the rest my life. I especially want to thank the other coaches in the department for helping make this place such a great place to work for the past eight years.”
A national search will begin immediately.
