Christopher Newport Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Krikorian has been honored as the Glenn Robinson Division III National Coach of the Year. The announcement was made on Monday by Collegeinsider.com.
Krikorian led the Captains to their first Final Four in the 49-year history of the program this season. CNU also set a new mark for wins in a season, finishing with a record of 30-2.
The Captains, who won 21 straight games to advance to the national semifinals in Salem, captured the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament after going 18-0 in conference regular-season play. It marked just the second time in the 26-year history of the CAC that a team has gone unbeaten in league play. Krikorian received his first CAC Coach of the Year honor.
Krikorian has led the CNU program for the last six seasons, and has compiled a record of 132-39 for a winning percentage of .771.
The Glenn Robinson Award is named after the longtime men’s basketball coach at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Robinson won his 900th game in January, and has led the Diplomats to 23 NCAA Tournaments in 45 seasons on the bench. He is the winningest coach in Division III men’s basketball history.
