Doug Compton Named Video Coordinator at Southern Miss

Southern Miss head men’s basketball coach Doc Sadler has announced the hiring of Doug Compton as the program’s new video coordinator.

“I’m very excited about the addition of Doug,” Sadler said. “I have known him for five years, and he is a basketball junkie that understands the commitment it takes to be successful.”

Compton began his college basketball tour in 2010 as a student video intern and practice player for the Kansas men’s team. The team won Big 12 regular season titles all three years, including a national runner-up finish in the last. Compton then changed course and moved south to Texas Wesleyan, where he enjoyed two successful years as a student-athlete for the Rams. He was the starting point guard for the 2015-16 team that finished No. 3 in the NAIA.

“I could not be more excited to join coach Doc Sadler and the staff he has at Southern Miss,” Compton said. “It’s an honor to be apart of the Golden Eagle family and community. I’m excited to get to work for and learn from such a great staff and team. I got a chance to know coach through our Kansas ties, I have long been a fan of Coach Sadler’s style of play and coaching.”

Compton since 2012 has served as an intern in the NBA Summer League and in 2016 held the same position for Adidas Nations. He was an assistant on internationally-known Babacar Sy’s African team that finished fourth in the world.

He has been employed under the likes of Sadler, Bill Self and Danny Manning among several others in his career.
