Central Connecticut men’s basketball head coach Donyell Marshall has added Anthony Ross to his staff as an assistant coach it was announced Friday. Ross was most recently an assistant coach at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg University. Ross replaces Obie Nwadike, who took a job with the NBA in China.
“Coach Ross is very young and energetic,” Marshall said. “I met him when he was recruting Donyell, Jr. His energy will translate to our team and he loves to be in the gym working to make players better. He works hard and wants to make himself better and I feel his energy and passion for basketball will be a positive for our program.”
Ross joined the East Stroudsburg staff in 2015-16 as an assistant coach and helped the Warriors to a 21-7 record and a spot in the PSAC quarterfinals. He helped coach three All-PSAC East selections in his first season on the ESU staff.
Prior to returning to ESU, Ross was the head coach at Penn State-Lehigh Valley for three seasons. At PSU-Lehigh Valley, he helped turn around a program that was 1-20 and lead it to double-digit wins and a berth in the PSUAC Tournament in his final season.
At PSU-LV he was also an assistant coordinator of athletics for two years where he coordinated all aspects of the men’s basketball program, conducted academic advising, directed the school’s basketball camp, worked as video coordinator for both the men’s and women’s programs, coordinated recruiting and compliance for five varsity sports, and was the sports information director for men’s basketball. He was also a member of the PSULV Diversity Committee.
Ross was an assistant coach at Moravian College for two seasons from 2010-2012. During his two seasons with the Greyhounds, he recruited three All-Landmark Conference selections.
Ross began his coaching career after graduating from ESU in 2006. He began his career as a student assistant coach for two seasons before moving onto Pocono Mountain East High School. Ross was assistant varsity coach and the head junior varsity coach, helping more than 30 players advance to the collegiate level.
A 2006 graduate of East Stroudsburg with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Ross was a two-year starter for the Warriors and was named the Male Senior Athlete of the Year. As a senior he averaged 10.3 points and had 111 assists and 45 steals. He played two season at Lackawanna College before transferring to ESU.
