Tarrance Crump, formerly an assistant coach at fellow Ohio Valley Conference member SIU Edwardsville, was hired as an assistant with the Southeast Missouri men’s basketball program Monday.

Crump spent three years as an assistant coach with the Cougars from 2015-18. SEMO head coach Rick Ray coached Crump when he was a student-athlete at Purdue.

“I am extremely happy to welcome Tarrance Crump to our family,” said Rick Ray. “I am so proud to personally see the maturation process from a player that I was lucky enough to coach at Purdue to the man, not just the coach, that he has become. Tarrance will be a great help to our guards as he has experienced playing their position in the Big Ten and having mentored perimeter players in the SEC, Pac 12, and the Ohio Valley Conference. Tarrance also has strong recruiting ties in places like St. Louis and Memphis that will serve our program well.

The 2015-16 season marked Crump’s first season as a full-time Division I assistant coach after serving as the Assistant Director of Operations at California during the 2014-15 campaign. While at Cal, Crump was involved in many facets of the Bears’ program. He was responsible for film breakdown following games, assisted with scouting reports, served as the staff liaison to the academic advisor, managed basketball camps, and organized community service events for the student-athletes.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of Coach Ray’s staff here at Southeast Missouri,” said Crump. “We have a great relationship that goes back to my playing days when I was at Purdue. I thing we have a lot of good guys in place and the opportunity is there for us to be successful moving forward.”

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Crump handled many of the same duties during one season as an intern on staff at Tennessee. Crump was there during the 2013-14 season in which the Volunteers advanced to the NCAA Tournament and won a school-record three games en route to reaching the Sweet 16.

Crump was the head boy’s basketball coach at Vine Middle School during the 2012-2013 season and the head women’s basketball coach at North Lawndale College Prep in 2011-2012 where his team won 20 games, while also achieving the highest team grade point average in school history.

As a player, Crump spent his final two collegiate seasons at Purdue under Head Coach Matt Painter. Crump played in 67 games, while making 15 starts, averaging five points per game. The Boilermakers won 47 games during his two seasons and advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament each year.
