Kevin Williamson has been hired as the head Men’s Basketball Coach at Grays Harbor College. Coach Williamson spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for the Dixie State men’s basketball program. Prior to that Williamson served as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth for three seasons. While at UMD, the team saw marked improvement in wins and in the 2014-15, the team recorded its first winning record since 2008, and hosted its first NSIC conference tournament game since 2006.

Williamson spent five seasons overall as an assistant coach to current UMD head coach Matt Bowen, including two seasons at Bemidji State, where he helped lead BSU to its second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. During his tenure on Bowen’s staff, Williamson helped recruit and produce 11 All-NSIC selections, as well a NSIC Player and Newcomer of the Year. In addition, he helped coach three all-Central Region picks, one NCAA II National Player of the Year, and a Central Region Player of the Year.

Prior to his arrival at Bemidji State, Williamson served as an assistant coach at Glendale (AZ) Community College, and was a physical education teacher and boy’s basketball coach at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, Calif., where he coached against Norman Powell (Lincoln HS,UCLA, NBA-Raptors) and Anthony Brown (Ocean View HS, Stanford, NBA-Lakers). Williamson also coached at Kofa High School in Yuma, Ariz., from 2007-08. Under his watch, the Kings set a school single-season record for wins, going 21-11 on the year, captured the Gila Valley Region championship and gained a Arizona 5A II State Tournament semifinal round berth — the first ever by any Yuma public high school. For his efforts, Williamson was chosen the Gila Valley Region Coach of the Year.

A native of San Diego, Williamson was a two-sport athlete (basketball and golf) at the University of Great Falls (MT), where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in 2007. He also completed a Master’s degree in Sports Studies at Bemidji State in 2012.

Coaching runs deep in the Williamson family as his father Craig was the head boy’s basketball coach at Sedona (AZ) High School during Kevin’s senior year, and his brother, Kyle, is currently the head girl’s basketball coach at Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego.
